Olympus has published firmware update for Olympus XZ-1. Version 1.2 will only add new Pic Orientation to camera menu.
- The orientation detection device may not operate as intended in some shooting conditions.
- This function can be turned off or on.
- In playback, the orientation of an image can be rotated by using the control ring. The desired orientation is then saved in the Exif file.
The update can be downloaded using free Olympus Digital Camera Updater
Lensmate is about to release a 52mm lens adapter for Olympus XZ-1. The adapter allows use of step ring and conversion lens while protecting your precious Zuiko lens. The price is $24.95 and should be ready for shipping after March 22nd.
Also, new camera grip for XZ-1 is available for pre-order. The grip designed by Richard Franiec will enhanced the camera’s handling.

DPReview just finished their full in-depth review on Olympus XZ-1 , the latest ‘serious’ compact from Olympus. The camera got a Gold Award with overal score 74% , one point better than the Canon G12 ( 73% ). Currently, DPreview thinks the Olympus XZ-1 is the best enthusiast compact camera so far.
The XZ-1 combines simple direct controls with an excellent lens to create probably the best photographers’ compact currently available. The output JPEGs are great and the balance of lens range, brightness and compactness make it a really appealing package, whether as an only camera or as a more pocketable backup for DSLR owners
